Street Talk Defensive Driving Course

Located at Fletcher Cole Hall, 19 McGarvey Road, Whakatane, the Street Talk Defensive Driving Course is a Waka Kotahi NZTA developed and approved course of advanced driving skills, to reduce the restricted licence period by 6 months for those under 25, and 3 months for those over 25. 

The Street Talk course is primarily aimed at those on a restricted licence, but can be done by those on a learner licence as well, provided you are far enough along your driving journey that you are getting ready to sit your restricted licence test.

Street Talk gives you the skills to be an "in-control driver". The course consists of four two-hour sessions of classroom theory (Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30pm - 6:30pm) and a one-hour practical session (to be completed within 60 days of completing session 4). The theory component of the course encourages you to consider: risk perception, risk management, self- reflection, decision making, goal setting and monitoring. The practical drive is all about putting the theory learnings into practice, and setting you up ready to take the full licence test.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a "pass or fail" course, it's a "completion" course. This means, as long as you turn up to all the sessions, and complete the workbook and practical drive, you will earn the certificate.
